Week 08 Type Based Illustration Presentation & Project 3 Selection
Type Based Illustration Presentation
Well, I finally presented my type based illustration. I think it came out well. The use of color was definitely a good decision for my particular illustration. Check out my case study if you want to see more information. Most of the students complimented my finished project so I guess that’s a good sign. Like always, I got a few more ideas and inspiration from seeing the other students projects. There is definitely some serious talent at the Art Institute of Seattle. It was definitely a good decision to pick this school.
On a side note, I decided to use Adobe InDesign to build my presentation this time. I figured out how to do some cool stuff. To be honest this is the second time I have used InDesign in my entire life. One of the other students used it to build their presentation last time to make the exported pdf interactive. I thought this was cool so I decided to try and figure it out. Now that I’ve finished I can say with confidence I know how to make clickable buttons in InDesign and even import video (swf) into a pdf. Cool stuff. I am sure I will use those capabilities in future presentations.
Project 3 Selection
After our presentations we were given some time to start our final project, the photo realistic illustration. Originally I was going to do a photo realistic illustration of a flower, but I noticed a couple of other students were doing flowers so I decided to switch my image. That whole desire to be an individual thing came up. Anyway here is a photo I took of my Harley 883 right after I bought it.
Ultimately, I feel much happier with this image selection over the flower. This one feels more like me. If I can pull it off I think it will be an amazing addition to my graduation portfolio. Plenty of nice structural segments and colors to illustrate. To be honest I don’t see myself using type based illustrations in the future as part of my personal style, but I definitely learned a lot about Adobe Illustrator during the process which is what it’s all about at this point. I was looking up some examples of photo realistic illustrations in class today and I came across this one. Simply amazing. If I can get to this level I won’t have any regrets.
